Keep Those Pipes from Bursting! - New Bedford 02745

1/13/2020 (Permalink)

Winter has officially arrived, opening a variety of burdens for homeowners, including water damage from frozen pipes. Water damage caused by burst pipes is one of the biggest risks of property damage during the winter months. The possibility of your pipes freezing in your home escalates as temperatures drop. Water expands as it freezes, putting immense pressure on the pipes containing it, which will cause the pipes to finally burst.

Here are a few suggestions to prevent burst pipes now and prevent water damage services:

  • Open cabinet doors underneath sinks and other plumbing locations to circulate warm air around the pipes.
  • Let your faucet drip cold water. The trickle will allow for a steady movement, which relieves strain on the pipes.
  • Set your thermostat to no lower than 55 degrees when you leave your home.
  • Keep your heat set at a constant temperature while you're at home and withhold from lowering it at night.

Feel free to reach out to our crews at SERVPRO of Dartmouth / New Bedford for any further assistance this season.
